Aniksha Kashyab of Tell City High School Named 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar for Perry County

Perry County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Perry County: Aniksha Kashyab, Tell City High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are recognized for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

"Aniksha exemplifies the qualities of a Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. Her strong commitment to academic excellence, community involvement, and extracurricular engagement was consistently evident throughout the scholarship process," said Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of full-time undergraduate study leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Scholars also join the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects them with resources and opportunities to lead on campus and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI).

"Growing up in Perry County, I have always felt a strong attachment towards our community, making an effort to get involved and bring forth a positive impact. My deep-rooted love for our community ties into my love for giving back to others, where I’ve been able to conduct countless service projects throughout the years and hold various leadership positions. This trait translated into an interest in healthcare, specifically optometry. I plan to attend Indiana University Bloomington on a pre-optometry track with a major in neuroscience,” said Aniksha Kashyab, Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. “This [Lilly Endowment Community] Scholarship will allow me to further my educational endeavors and reach my ultimate career goals with a large financial relief. In the future, I aspire to establish my own clinic and give back to Perry County by providing equal and accessible care. I am so thankful for the Perry County Community Foundation for investing in my education, and I hope to return back to Perry County and continue giving back to the community."

In nominating Perry County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar, the committee considered academic performance, school and community activities, essay, special circumstances, and a finalist interview. After narrowing the field of applicants, nominees were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI), the statewide administrator of the program, for final selection.

Since its inception in 1997-1998, Lilly Endowment has supported this program with tuition grants totaling more than $505 million, benefiting over 5,400 Indiana students. The program’s primary purposes are:

To raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana.
To increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations play.
To encourage and support Lilly Scholars’ engagement with Indiana leaders to improve quality of life statewide.

The Community Foundation Alliance is proud to announce that applications are now open for its Community Scholarship Program, offering hundreds of opportunities for students across Southwest Indiana and in select areas of Illinois and Kentucky.

These scholarships, made possible by generous local donors, provide financial support for students pursuing college, university, technical programs, or other post-secondary education paths.

The Perry County Community Foundation announced that more than $110,000 has been awarded to 21 local nonprofits through its Community Good Grants Program. These grants support projects that strengthen the Perry County community and improve the quality of life for local residents.

The 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Application is Now Open in Perry County

The 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 147 scholarships statewide and one scholarship in Perry County.

LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis, leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance, is open to all Indiana residents who:

graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2026 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2026;
intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and
meet the criteria specific to Perry County Community Foundation. Visit perrycountycf.org/lilly-endowment-community-scholarship-program for complete information regarding the Perry County application criteria.

Students can learn more about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Perry County and apply for this scholarship by visiting the Perry County Community Foundation website. Applications must be completed and submitted by August 25, 2025, to be considered.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: academic performance, school and community activities, leadership roles in activities, essays, special circumstances, and interview. Three finalists will be nominated by the Perry County Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $505 million. More than 5,400 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

Opportunities for Entrepreneurs: Comprehensive Report Outlines Strategic Demand, New Market Openings in Southern Indiana Region

A broad spectrum of diverse demand for a wide variety of professionals and professional services exists in southern Indiana, representing an array of actionable growth opportunities and potential market development. These opportunities were recently strategically documented in a comprehensive report funded by the Community Foundation Alliance and the Harrison County Community Foundation.

The planning report, conducted in partnership with the Indiana First READI region, profiles and pinpoints specific growth opportunities for entrepreneurs in several categories, according to Jill Carpenter, President and CEO of the Community Foundation Alliance here.

“Based on direct primary research conducted across multiple counties, the Indiana First Quality of Life Economic Impact Analysis report reveals market potential and entrepreneurial gaps on a county-by-county basis, demonstrating areas of real demand,” said Carpenter. “A careful review of key areas can yield some significant potential market growth for the right companies, professionals, and entrepreneurs.”

The economic development executives in the First Indiana region noted that they intend to mine the report to determine opportunities for scalable market growth and talent attraction. The report offers an analysis of the potential economic impact for addressing and improving defined issues throughout the region.

“This report can be a workbook for professionals looking to expand, relocate, or start up a business in multiple categories,” said Chris Pfaff, CEO of Knox County Indiana Economic Development. “It provides actionable data on what services and capacity presently exist within our counties and region, and what services residents travel outside of the county or region to buy or obtain.”

“Those gaps represent a definable opportunity to be evaluated and captured,” he added. “It can serve as a talent attractor and entrepreneurial opportunity of the first order for our region.”

The information is expected to help the region enhance its state and local investments from the READI program and other private investment opportunities.

“In order to get feedback from each county, key stakeholders were invited to participate in community conversations regarding essential services in their county in addition to a public survey facilitated by consultants,” said Julie Moorman, President and CEO of the Harrison County Community Foundation. “We are appreciative of the input from community stakeholders in helping identify gaps in essential services and sharing their input of quality-of-life amenities in their communities.”

The 191-page report, assembled by TPMA (Thomas P. Miller and Associates), includes significant data analysis and identified specific opportunities to enhance the quality of life in five southern Indiana counties, sketching out gaps that can be filled through initiative planning and growth, infrastructure investments, and elevation of talent opportunities.

Actionable potential engagement highlights for growth range from healthcare and essential services to entertainment and dining, as well as professional and technical services.

"The report confirms what we’ve heard anecdotally for years—many Perry County residents travel outside the county for veterinary services," said Erin Emerson, President and CEO of the Perry County Development Corporation. "Now, by pairing local insight with concrete data, we can make an even stronger case that additional veterinary services could thrive here - this is just one of many opportunities highlighted in the analysis that align with the needs of our community."

The Perry County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Perry County – Maggie Taylor, Perry Central Jr./Sr. High School . Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership. Scholarship award alternates were also announced. The first alternate is Julia Walsh, Perry Central Jr./ Sr. High School, and Addison Huber; Tell City Jr./ Sr. High School, was named the second alternate.

“The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship is a life-changing opportunity for students,” said Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “The Community Foundation was thoroughly pleased with the quality of the applications submitted and the involvement of the applicants. In determining Perry County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar nominees, consideration was given to academic performance, school and community activities, essay, special circumstances, and finalist interview by the LECSP Nominating Committee. After the field of applicants was narrowed down, nominees were submitted to ICI, the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, which approves the final selection of scholarship recipients.

Lilly Endowment created the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program for the 1997-98 school year. Since then, grant funding in excess of $490 million has supported more than 5,300 Indiana students who have received scholarships through the program.

Many of our donors have chosen to honor their loved ones, communities, high schools, colleges, and professions by establishing scholarship funds through their local Community Foundations in Daviess, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick Counties. These funds support the annual Community Scholarship programs, providing valuable opportunities for students in Southwest Indiana. Thanks to their contributions, applications are being accepted now, with a deadline of Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

"We are excited to once again provide scholarship opportunities to students in our Southwest Indiana region,” says Melinda Waldroup, Chief Program Officer at the Community Foundation Alliance. “By offering these scholarships, we are not only investing in individual students but also in the future of our communities. We encourage all eligible students to apply and take a step towards achieving their educational and career goals."

Students may apply for one or more scholarships if they meet the eligibility requirements and selection criteria established by donors. Details about each scholarship and the application are posted on the website at communityfoundationalliance.org/scholarships .

Each scholarship is unique and supports students with a variety of backgrounds, educational goals, and economic statuses. Awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion, or national origin and are based on a competitive process that may consider academic achievement, extracurricular activities, personal aspirations, educational goals, and financial need.

The deadline to apply is Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

Perry County Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications For The 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program

The 2025 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 147 scholarships statewide and one scholarship in Perry County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2025 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2025;
intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

Students can learn more about the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Perry County and apply for this scholarship by visiting https://www.perrycountycf.org/lilly-endowment-community-scholarship-program . Applications must be completed and submitted by August 28, 2024, by 11:59 p.m. to be considered.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: School and Community Activities and Leadership, Essays, Special Circumstances, Academics, and Interview. Three finalists will be nominated by the Perry County Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $490 million. More than 5,300 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

Perry County Community Foundation Community Good Grants Program Will Begin Accepting Applications On June 10th

The Perry County Community Foundation will begin accepting online applications for its Community Good Grants Program on Monday, June 10, 2024. The deadline to submit applications is Monday, July 22, 2024.

The Community Good Grants program supports a variety of charitable purposes in Perry County. The grant encompasses four different request levels:

· Level 1: Requests of $500 or less

· Level 2: Requests of $501 – $2,500

· Level 3: Requests of $2,501 – $9,999

· Level 4: Requests of $10,000 or more

Charitable organizations can view details related to funding requirements and access the grant application via the Foundation’s website at https://www.perrycountycf.org/community-good-grants-program .

Funding requests are reviewed by a committee of community leaders under the local advisory board. They review all grant applications, conduct site visits to potential grantees, and deliberate on which organizations best serve the community’s greatest needs. All organizations submitting grant proposals will be notified of the outcome on or before October 31, 2024.

Perry County Community Foundation Awards Over $57,000 In Community Scholarships

The Perry County Community Foundation announces community scholarship awards totaling $57,750. Funds established by generous donors made these scholarships to area students possible.

In addition to announcing the recipients, Regional Director of Community Engagement & Impact, Emily Alvey says, “The Perry County Community Foundation expresses gratitude towards our philanthropic fund founders and donors, whose generosity enables the realization of these scholarship awards. Their commitment to the education of our youth profoundly influences the future of every recipient. A dedicated committee of community volunteers carries out the work of selecting deserving individuals for these scholarships. We deeply appreciate their efforts and dedication in this endeavor. The selection process is always challenging due to the exceptional caliber of our Perry County students.”

Scholarship awards were announced as follows.

The Birch and Ruth Shafer Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Ruth Shafer through her estate to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school. This year’s recipients, receiving $4,500 each, are Lexi Schaefer, Seth Guillaume, and Katie Lynch . Lexi is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Rodney Schaefer and Rachel Schaefer. Following graduation, she plans to attend Indiana State University to pursue a degree in Communications. Seth is a senior at Perry Central High School and the son of Ty and Stacey Guillaume. Following graduation, he plans to pursue a degree in Welding at Vincennes University. Katie is a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Jolie Hughes. Following graduation, she plans to attend Vincennes University Jasper to pursue a degree in Nursing.

The Branchville Correctional Facility Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Branchville Correctional Facility in memory of former employees to encourage current employees and their dependents to further their education and to motivate recipients to achieve maximum scholastic and vocational potential. The recipient of this year’s $1,500 award is Vanessa Hubert , a senior at Perry Central High School. Vanessa is the daughter of Kelly Allen and the late Charles Hubert. Following graduation, she plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to study Theatre Arts.

The Buehler Foods Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Buehler Foods to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school demonstrating good academic standing. This year’s $1,000 scholarship recipient is Cyrilla Sommer , a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Andy and Sara Sommer. Following graduation, Cyrilla plans to pursue a degree in Finance at Indiana University.

The Cecil and Olive Foster Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Olive M. Foster to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school planning to pursue post-secondary education. This year’s $3,000 scholarship recipient is Kari Bryant , a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Berton Bryant and Mindy Bryant. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Marketing at Indiana University.

The Charles S. (Blackie) and Rose H. Paulin Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Betty Lou Paulin Gast in memory of her parents to benefit Perry County residents who are considered non-traditional students. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Ryan Sumner , a 1999 graduate of Tell City High School and the son of Judy Sumner. He is currently in the Graduate Counseling program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Indiana Wesleyan University.

The Earl and Hazel Etienne Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by their children in memory of their parents. This scholarship was created to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school planning to major in education and pursue a career in education. This year’s $500 scholarship recipient is Kaitlyn Strobel , a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Jeff and Crystal Strobel. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at Kentucky Wesleyan.

The Edgar and Evelyn Whitcomb Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by Edgar and Evelyn Whitcomb to encourage Perry Central High School students to further their education and achieve maximum scholastic potential. This year’s recipient, receiving $2,500, is Katie Lynch .

The Harriet and Don Neill “Perry County Values” Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by Harriet and Don Neill to help graduating seniors from Perry Central High School further their education. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Blake Hess , a senior at Perry Central High School and the son of Ryan and Brandi Hess. Following graduation, he plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to pursue a degree in Computer Science.

The J. Matthew Moore Memorial Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship created in memory of Matthew Moore by his wife, Lucy Goffinet, and his parents, John E. and Ann C. Moore, to help students pursuing advanced education. The scholarship is for graduating seniors of Cannelton High School or Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary education. This year’s recipients, receiving $1,500 each, are Danika Maffia and Shilah McMahan . Danika is a senior at Cannelton High School and the daughter of Andrea Maffia. Following graduation, she plans to attend Ivy Tech Evansville to study Healthcare Specialty. Shilah is a senior at Cannelton High School and the daughter of Aaron and Shana Rogier. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Biology at Owensboro Community and Technical College.

The Jamon L. Burchett Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship established in memory of Jamon L. Burchett by his parents, Rich and Julie, and his brother, Travis, to honor Jamon’s love for electrical repair. This scholarship is for graduating seniors of any Perry County high school planning to pursue education or training in a vocational field at an accredited institution. The recipient of this year’s award in the amount of $500 is Seth Guillaume .

The Loren and Bernice Lanman Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Bernice Lanman to benefit graduating seniors from each of the three Perry County high schools who have been enrolled during their entire senior year. This year’s recipients, receiving $500 each, are Nakaia Little, Autumn Zellers, and Erin Holtzman . Nakaia is a senior at Cannelton High School and the daughter of Tally Little. Following graduation, Nakaia plans to attend Indiana State University to pursue a degree in Psychology. Autumn is a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Nick and Jamie Zellers. Following graduation, Autumn plans to pursue a degree in International Business at Indiana University Southeast. Erin is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Lee Ann Holtzman and the late Timothy Holtzman. Following graduation, Erin will be pursuing a degree in Biology at Franklin College.

The Mildred Wempe Memorial Scholarship 1 is an annual scholarship created by the Clayton Harris Memorial United Methodist Church in Tobinsport to benefit graduates or graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing education for a career in medicine or healthcare. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Emma Whalen . Emma is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Jimi Whalen and Bridgett Whalen. Following graduation, she will be attending the University of Southern Indiana to study Biology/Pre-Dental.

The Old National Tell City Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Old National Bancorp to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing post-secondary education of any kind. This year’s $500 scholarship recipient is Cyrilla Sommer .

The Perry County 4-H Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by David and Evelyn Adams to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school who have been a member of 4-H for at least five years. This year’s $1,000 scholarship recipient is Madison Kelly , a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Luke and Emma Kelly. Following graduation, she plans to study Accounting at Indiana University.

The Robert E. Boyles Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Beverly C. McGee in memory of her friend to benefit graduating female seniors of Cannelton High School. The recipient of this year’s $500 scholarship is Nakaia Little .

The Robert Ress Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by the Optimist Club of Tell City, Indiana, to benefit graduating seniors of Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary vocational education or specific career training. The recipient of this year’s $500 scholarship is Kaitlyn Rhodes . Kaitlyn is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Donnie and Sarah Rhodes. Following graduation, she plans to attend The Salon Professional Academy to become an Esthetician.

The Rose Hazel Gabbert Paulin and Charles S. (Blackie) Paulin Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Kenton A. and Betty Paulin Gast in memory of Betty’s parents to benefit graduates of any Perry County high school pursuing post-secondary education. This year’s $1,250 scholarship recipient is Erin Holtzman .

The Sam K. Oberhausen Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Mr. and Mrs. Anthony H. Oberhausen in memory of their son to benefit graduating seniors of Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary education. The recipient of this year’s $1,500 scholarship is Haley Mechels , a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Lesly Wilkins. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Stacey Peak Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created to honor Stacey Peak, who was a victim of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. The recipient of this year’s $1,500 scholarship is Alexander Mattingly . Alexander is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Rosalie Kleeman and the late Ronald Mattingly. Following graduation, Alexander plans to obtain a degree in Finance at Indiana University.

The York Family Scholarship is an annual scholarship created in memory of Max and Billie York and their daughter, Sondra Kaye York, by their family to help students pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. The recipient of this year’s $1,500 scholarship is Meredith Hubert , a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Jason and Sheila Hubert. Following graduation, she will be attending Western Kentucky University to pursue a degree in Elementary and Special Education.

The Zachary Kleemann Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Jim and Kathleen Kleemann in memory of their son to benefit graduating seniors of Tell City High School. This year’s $1,000 scholarship recipient is Haley Mechels .

Perry County Community Foundation Announces Free Public Workshop - Bridges Out Of Poverty: Individual Lens

The Perry County Community Foundation is announcing a free, public workshop featuring Stephen Ralph, consultant/trainer with aha! Process, utilizing the Bridges Out of Poverty Model, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.at the Tell City Depot in Tell City, Indiana. This workshop will consist of a comprehensive approach to understanding poverty. Complimentary lunch and refreshments will be provided.

In 2019, the Perry County Community Foundation collected data, hosted community forums, and selected the cycle of poverty as its focus to more effectively utilize its discretionary grant dollars.

Bridges Out of Poverty provides concrete tools and strategies for a community to understand, address, and alleviate poverty. This training assists community organizations, social service agencies, employers, and individuals in gaining insight and strategies toward creating economic stability for all. During the workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the dynamics that cause and maintain poverty from individual to systems levels.

Perry County Community Foundation Awards Grants Totaling Over $115,000

The Perry County Community Foundation recently announced Community Good grants totaling $115,144.15 to twenty one organizations serving Perry County.

This year’s grant recipients are:

· American Red Cross Southwest Indiana Chapter was awarded $3,750 to support the collection of life-saving blood that will supply medical facilities serving Perry County residents.

· Buffalo Trace Council-Boy Scouts of America was awarded $2,500 to promote youth education through Scouting's focus on Environmental Science and Career Exploration.

· Catholic Charities Tell City was awarded $15,000 to fund emergency food resources distributed through the Perry County Food Pantry Coalition pantries.

· Chemo Buddies was awarded $2,600 to provide comfort kits to Perry County cancer patients.

· City of Cannelton was awarded $8,100 to restore the Wilbur mausoleum located in Old Cliff Cemetery.

· Crisis Connection, Inc. was awarded $4865.69 to provide advocacy support to victims of domestic and sexual violence in Perry County.

· Deaconess Hospital Foundation was awarded $3,000 to provide mammography screening, mammography education, and other screening services to underinsured or uninsured women in Perry County.

· Glory Bees Preschool was awarded $8,078.46 to add additional classroom staff to the 2024- 2025 school year.

· Junior Achievement of West Kentucky, Inc. was awarded $5,000 to for Soft Skills & Financial Literacy programs that will deliver soft skills programs for high school students, who will then hone those new skills through service learning in elementary classrooms.

· Junior Achievement of West Kentucky, Inc. was awarded $3,000 for Work Readiness & Financial Empowerment programs for 8th grade students in Perry County to discover future careers, and learn the correlation between educational attainment and future financial stability.

· Lincoln Hills Development Corporation was awarded $3,000 for the purchase of heavy-duty evacuation cribs.

· Perry Central Community School Corporation was awarded $7,000 to update the school greenhouse to provide food for the school cafeteria, local food banks and community members.

· Perry Central Education Foundation was awarded $4,000 to assist with the replacement of the roof and HVAC of the Leopold Conservation Club building so that it can be restored to be used as a community gathering place and resource for charitable organizations, such as the Perry Central Education Foundation, and other nonprofits.

· Perry County Council on Aging was awarded $7,500 toward the purchase of a vehicle for the senior center activities program.

· Perry County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $7,500 to establish and implement a K9 Unit Program

· Shubael Little Pioneer Village Inc. was awarded $9,000 to enhance the visual welcoming into the village.

· Tell City Historical Society was awarded $4,500 to develop and digitize keyword searchable archives of the Perry County newspapers in partnership with the Perry County Public Library.

· Tell City Jr.-Sr. High School was awarded $2,150 to create an event called “Empty Bowls” to raise awareness and donate to local food pantries.

· Tell City Police Department K9 Fund was awarded $7,500 to rebuild the Tell City Police Department K-9 Program.

· Tell City Regional Arts Association was awarded $1,600 to continue to provide camps to the community.

· The Salvation Army - Indiana Divisional Headquarters was awarded $2,500 to provide immediate financial support to Perry County residents who are unable to meet basic needs.

Now Accepting Applications For Community Scholarship Program

This year, donors to the Perry County Community Foundation are once again making scholarship awards available through the Foundation’s Community Scholarship Program. Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

“Donors have honored their loved ones, high schools, or professions by establishing scholarship funds through the Community Foundation,” says Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “We administer those scholarship funds established by individuals, families, and organizations to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Program.”

Students may apply for one or more scholarships as long as they meet the particular eligibility requirements. Details about each scholarship and the application are posted on the Foundation’s website at perrycountycf.org/scholarships .

Eligibility requirements and selection criteria are determined by donors and are posted on the website. Each scholarship is unique and supports students with a variety of backgrounds, educational goals, and economic statuses. Awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion, or national origin and are based on a competitive process which may consider academic achievement, extracurricular activities, personal aspirations, educational goals, and financial need.

Perry County Community Foundation Announces the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipient

The Perry County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Perry County – Alyssa Goffinet of Perry Central Junior-Senior High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

“Alyssa’s involvement and dedication to her school and community were apparent in her application and interview. The nominating committee was honored to have the opportunity to meet her and recommend her for this life-changing opportunity,” said Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact for the Perry County Community Foundation.

Alyssa is the daughter of Steven and Fannie Goffinet, of Saint Croix. Following graduation, Alyssa plans to pursue a degree in Secondary Education. In addition to excelling academically, Alyssa has been involved in a variety of school activities including Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Educators Rising Club, Future Farmers of America, Art Club, Cross Country, Basketball, and Track & Field. Outside of academics, Alyssa devotes numerous hours to her church including volunteering with the food program, student ministry, and serves as a group leader for Bible Camp.

In determining Perry County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar(s) nominees, consideration was given to academic performance, school and community activities and leadership role in activities, two essays, steps the applicant has taken to prepare for his/ her chosen career or educational path, special circumstances, and a finalist interview by the LECSP Nominating Committee. After the field of applicants was narrowed down, nominees were submitted to ICI, the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, which approves the final selection of scholarship recipients.

“The Community Foundation was thoroughly pleased with the quality of the applications and the involvement of the applicants. Perry County is full of talented youth,” said Alvey. Scholarship award alternates were also announced. Erin Holtzman was named the first alternate and Cyrilla Sommer was named the second alternate.

Lilly Endowment created the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program for the 1998-99 school year and has supported the program every year since with grants totaling in excess of $505 million. More than 5,200 Indiana students have received the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship since the program’s inception.

The Donna Fenn Literacy Fund Held By The Perry County Community Foundation Awards Annual Grant

The Donna Fenn Literacy Fund, held by the Perry County Community Foundation, recently awarded a $3,805 grant to the Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation for the development of literacy skills programs for students at William Tell Elementary.

The fund was established in memory of Donna Fenn by her husband, Doug; son Christian; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Liffick; and parents, Christian and Dorothy Nix.

“The Donna Fenn Literacy Fund has brought books (and joy) to William Tell Elementary students since 2005. Annually and faithfully, the Donna Fenn Literacy Fund, through the Perry County Community Foundation, has given us the opportunity to purchase hundreds of books for the school library. Additionally, devices have been purchased to allow for electronic reading and reading resources have been purchased to support the research-based Science of Reading strategies for teaching reading foundational skills. This would make Donna, who had such a passion for teaching reading, so very happy.” said Mrs. Laura Noble, William Tell Elementary Principal.

Since 2005, the Donna Fenn Literacy Fund has provided support to the Tell City-Troy Township Schools with over $33,000 in grants annually.

Perry County Community Foundation Announces Changes In Community Good Grants Cycle

The Perry County Community Foundation announces that the Community Good Grant cycle will no longer be a year-round cycle but will instead be an annual grant cycle.

What does this mean for local nonprofits serving Perry County? The annual Community Good Grants cycle will open in September this year and close in October. In subsequent years, it will open in August and close in September. There are no changes to the eligibility or application process. It will be important for nonprofits to ensure their application is submitted completely on the Foundation’s website before the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

“As we navigate this substantial shift for our local nonprofits, our dedication remains unwavering to amplify this change across the entire county and provide steadfast support for their invaluable endeavors,” explained Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact.

This year’s important dates are:

· Grant Cycle Opens: September 8 (Application available online at www.perrycountycf.org/community-good-grants-program )

· Deadline to Apply: October 23

The Community Good Grants program supports a variety of charitable purposes in Perry County. The grant cycle encompasses four different request levels:

· Level 1: Requests of $500 or less

· Level 2: Requests of $501 – $2,500

· Level 3: Requests of $2,501 – $9,999

· Level 4: Requests of $10,000 or more (contact us before beginning your application)

Last fiscal year, the Perry County Community Foundation awarded $135,437 through the Community Good Grants Program. Moving to an annual grant cycle allows the staff and committee volunteers to focus on community engagement initiatives rather than continuously reviewing grants – allowing the committee to have a full view of community needs, and to approach giving with a unified lens.

Community Good Grants are reviewed by a committee of community leaders under the local advisory board. They review all grant applications, conduct site visits to potential grantees, and deliberate on which organizations best serve the community’s greatest needs.

Perry County Community Foundation Recognizes Advisory Board Members

The Perry County Community Foundation would like to recognize two advisory board members that recently completed their volunteer service on the county advisory board: Earla Williams and Joe Sisley. We extend a heartfelt appreciation for their service and dedication to making a lasting impact in our community.

The Community Foundation would like to welcome Rachel Granderson to the advisory board. This fiscal year’s advisory board also includes Dana Franzman (president), Tim Huber (vice president), Joan Hess (secretary), Patsy Alvey, Marty Kaiser, Rita Mahoney, Rachel Roccia, and Barry Stiles.

Volunteer members of the advisory board play a vital role in the success of the Community Foundation. They focus on local asset development, learning about the community’s greatest needs and nonprofits that support those needs, and recommending grants and scholarships. "The accomplishment of our mission greatly depends on the active involvement of community members in our advisory board. Their dedicated volunteer work represents a continual and committed dedication of time, with the goal of ensuring that donations consistently result in a positive influence on the well-being of individuals living in Perry County." said advisory board president Dana Franzman.

While the Perry County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation Alliance, at least one county advisory board member serves as a county representative on the Alliance Board. This fiscal year's representatives are Patsy Alvey and Tim Huber.

Perry County Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications for the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program

The 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECSP) application is now available in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation. The LECSP will provide 147 scholarships statewide and one scholarship in Perry County. LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

• graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2024 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2024;

• intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

• meet the criteria specific to their local Community Foundation.

Applications will be evaluated on, but not limited to, the following criteria: academic performance, school and community activities, leadership roles, and essays. Finalists for the scholarship will also be required to participate in an interview with the committee. One recipient and two alternates will be nominated by the Perry County Community Foundation, and their names will be submitted to ICI for final selection of the recipients. Scholarship recipients will be notified in December.

Lilly Endowment created LECSP for the 1997-98 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $486 million. More than 5,000 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

The primary purposes of the LECSP are: 1) to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana; 2) to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and 3) to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.

Perry County 4-H Council was awarded $500 to provide hygiene supplies for needy teens at Perry Central and Cannelton schools.

Junior Achievement of West Kentucky, Inc. was awarded $6,000 for the Soft Skills and Financial Literacy programs in Perry County which will deliver soft skills programs for high school students who will then hone those new skills through service learning in elementary classrooms; and $3,500 for all eighth-grade students in Perry County to receive the Work Readiness and Financial Empowerment program that allows students to discover future careers and the correlation between educational attainment and future financial stability.

Leadership Perry County was awarded $15,000 to cover the cost of materials for a newly constructed shelter house at Castle Park.

Perry County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $10,000 to cover expenses for Body Worn Cameras for the officers to wear.

Chemo Buddies was awarded $3,300 to provide comfort kits to Perry County cancer patients.

Youth First, Inc. was awarded $7,000 for Youth First Social Workers embedded in Perry County partner schools to equip students with the skills to build mental health resilience.

Tell City Regional Arts Association was awarded $2,380 to provide materials and low-cost participant fee for Art Camp sessions.

Perry County Public Library was awarded $9,000 to develop a digitized keyword searchable archive of the Perry County newspapers and other local historical documents.

Albion Fellows Bacon Center, Inc. was awarded $1,979.10 to cover the cost of a kitchen over to be placed in the Emergency Shelter.

Perry County Community Foundation Day Proclaimed By Tell City Mayor, Chris Cail Marks 30 Years of Giving

On June 30, 2023, the Perry County Community Foundation celebrated its 30 ^th Anniversary with a special proclamation presented by Tell City Mayor, Chris Cail. This day shall be known as Perry County Community Foundation Day and marked 30 years of giving back to Perry County.

For the past 30 years, the Perry County Community Foundation has proven that the journey together is united in purpose and vision. It is truly remarkable to note the growth experienced since inception. With over 130 established funds that hold more than $8.2 million in assets, the Community Foundation has granted a remarkable $4.8 million in the community in the past 30 years.

As the proclamation was presented, Tell City Mayor, Chris Cail said, “The City of Tell City recognizes this day as Perry County Community Foundation Day. The Perry County Community Foundation is a charitable resource devoted to our local community that helps people make meaningful gifts that improve life in Perry County.”

This 30 ^th Anniversary celebration presented a unique opportunity that allowed advisory board members to recommend $3,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The advisory board members collectively granted $30,000 to these local nonprofit organizations:

Perry County Community Foundation Awards Over $78,000 In Community Scholarships

The Perry County Community Foundation announces the distribution of community scholarships totaling $78,200. This year, funds established by generous donors, provided scholarships to area students.

In addition to announcing the recipients, the Regional Director of Community Engagement & Impact, Emily Alvey says, “The Perry County Community Foundation expresses gratitude towards our philanthropic fund founders and donors, whose generosity enables the realization of these scholarship awards. Their commitment to the education of our youth profoundly influences the future of every recipient. Selecting deserving individuals for these scholarships is carried out diligently and conscientiously by a dedicated committee of volunteer leaders. We deeply appreciate their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication in this endeavor. The selection process is always challenging due to the exceptional caliber of our Perry County students.”

Scholarship awards were announced as follows.

The Birch and Ruth Shafer Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Ruth Shafer through her estate to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school. This year’s recipients, receiving $5,000 each are Randi Bernardi, Maxwell Briggeman, Tyce DuPont, Alyssa Howell, Gabriel James, Evan Neuman, and Chloe Whalen. Randi is a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of John and Kimble Bernardi. Following graduation, she plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to pursue a degree in Communication Studies. Maxwell is a senior at Perry Central High School and the son of Christopher and Sarah Briggeman. Following graduation, he plans to pursue a degree in Engineering at the University of Southern Indiana. Tyce is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Patrick and Melissa DuPont. Following graduation, he plans to attend Wabash College to study Computer Science. Alyssa is a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Randall and Heather Howell. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Biology at the University of Evansville. Gabriel is a senior at Perry Central High School and the son of Ray and Melissa James. Following graduation, he plans to attend Indiana University to obtain a degree in Economics. Evan is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Eric Neuman and Erin Owen. Following graduation, he plans to pursue a degree in Graphic Design at Indiana University Southeast. Chloe is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Jimi Whalen and Bridgett Whalen. Following graduation, she plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to pursue a degree in Biology.

The Branchville Correctional Facility Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Branchville Correctional Facility in memory of former employees to encourage current employees and their dependents to further their education and to motivate recipients to achieve maximum scholastic and vocational potential. The recipient of this year’s award in the amount of $1,500 is Jadyn Smith, a senior at Perry Central High School. Jadyn is the daughter Jeffrey and Amy Smith. Following graduation, she plans to attend Indiana State University to study Physical Therapy.

The Buehler Foods Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Buehler Foods to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school demonstrating good academic standing. This year’s $1,000 scholarship recipient is Adam Goffinet, a senior at Perry Central High School and the son of Steven and Fannie Goffinet. Following graduation, Adam plans to pursue a degree in Computer Science at the University of Evansville.

The Cecil and Olive Foster Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Olive M. Foster to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school planning to pursue post-secondary education. This year’s recipients, receiving $1,500 each are Jaylie Albin and Daniel Scott. Jaylie is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Clint Albin and Jennifer Bartlett. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Marketing at Indiana University. Daniel is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Joshua and Kristina Scott. Following graduation, he plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to pursue a degree in Education.

The Earl and Hazel Etienne Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by their children in memory of their parents. This scholarship was created to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school planning to major in education and pursue a career in education. This year’s $500 scholarship recipient is Dreama Cronin, a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Amanda Cronin. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Biology and Science Education at Indiana State University.

The Gene and Christina Schwindel Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Gene and Christina Schwindel to benefit graduating seniors or graduates of Perry Central High School pursuing post-secondary education. This year’s recipients, receiving $2,000 each are Gordon Sprinkle and James Sprinkle. Gordon and James are seniors at Perry Central High School and the sons of Brian and Jacqueline Sprinkle. Following graduation, Gordon plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, James plans to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Harriet and Don Neill “Perry County Values” Scholarship is an annual scholarship established by Harriet and Don Neill to help graduating seniors from Perry Central High School further their education. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Cody Guillaume, a senior at Perry Central High School and the son of Chad and Carrie Guillaume. Following graduation, he plans to attend Vincennes University to pursue a degree in Automotive Technology.

The J. Matthew Moore Memorial Scholarship is an annual renewable scholarship created in memory of Matthew Moore by his wife, Lucy Goffinet, and his parents, John E. and Ann C. Moore, to help students pursuing advanced education. The scholarship is for graduating seniors of Cannelton High School or Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary education. This year’s $1,500 scholarship recipient is Kelby Glenn. Kelby is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Brandi Glenn. Following graduation, he plans to study Business Administration at Indiana University.

The John Marion Walker Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by the John Marion Walker Scholarship Trust to benefit graduating seniors of Tell City High School or Perry Central Junior-Senior High School pursuing post-secondary education at any Indiana institution of higher learning. This year’s recipients, receiving $1,000 each are Collin Kessens, Caleb Hubert, and Chase Hubert. Collin is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Christopher and Lisa Kessens. Following graduation, Collin will be pursuing a degree in Informatics at Indiana University. Caleb and Chase are seniors at Perry Central High School and the sons of Brett and Laurie Hubert. Following graduation, Caleb plans to pursue a degree in Business at University of Southern Indiana. Following graduation, Chase plans to attend University of Southern Indiana to study Accounting.

The John Williams Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created in memory of John Williams by his parents, Jim and Earla Williams, and his brother, Logan Williams to honor John’s love of working on vehicles. This scholarship is for graduating seniors of any Perry County high school planning to pursue education or training at any accredited vocational school. This year’s recipients, receiving $2,000 each are Ada Alvey and Eli Moseby. Ada is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Eugene and Tamie Alvey. Ada will be studying General Studies at Ivy Tech Community College after graduation. Eli is a senior at Cannelton High School and the son of Walter and Christina Shephard. Following graduation, Eli will be pursuing a degree in Commercial Electrical at Owensboro Community and Technical College.

The Loren and Bernice Lanman Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Bernice Lanman to benefit graduating seniors from each of the three Perry County high schools who have been enrolled during the entire senior year. This year’s recipients, receiving $500 each are Cody Kempf, Autumn Meyer, and Jacob Roesch. Cody is a senior at Cannelton High School and the son of Russell and Laura Kempf. Following graduation, Cody plans to attend Owensboro Community and Technical College to pursue a degree in Electrical Maintenance. Autumn is a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Aaron and Lanette Meyer. Following graduation, Autumn plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Evansville. Jacob is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Erin Conner. Following graduation, Jacob will be pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville.

The Mark “Flash” Kleeman Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship established in memory of Mark “Flash” Kleeman by his wife, Angie; children, Brandon and Angel; and his extended family to benefit graduating seniors planning to continue their education or training at any accredited trade or vocational school. This year’s $1,000 scholarship recipient is Rain Rhodes. Rain is a senior at Perry Central High School. Her guardians are Keith and Harvest Dawn Rudolph. Following graduation, Rain will be attending Vincennes University to study Culinary Arts.

The Mildred Wempe Memorial Scholarship 1 is an annual scholarship created by the Clayton Harris Memorial United Methodist Church in Tobinsport to benefit graduates or graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing education for a career in medicine or healthcare. This year’s $2,000 scholarship recipient is Chloe VanHoosier. Chloe is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Thomas VanHoosier and Sara Zuelly. Following graduation, she will be attending University of Southern Indiana to study Biology.

The Mildred Wempe Memorial Scholarship 2 is an annual scholarship created by TCB Bank to benefit graduates or graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing a career in nursing. Christian Arellano is the recipient of this year’s scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Christian is a senior at Tell City High School and the son of Tanath Reynolds. Following graduation, he plans to pursue a degree in Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Perry County 4-H Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by David and Evelyn Adams to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school who have been a member of 4-H for at least five years. This year’s $1,000 scholarship recipient is Ashton Schraner, a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Michael and Sue Tate. Following graduation, she plans to study Accounting at the University of Southern Indiana.

The Perry County FOP Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Lodge 173 of the Perry County Fraternal Order of Police to benefit graduating seniors of any Perry County high school pursuing a career in law enforcement or a related field. This year’s $500 scholarship recipient is Kendall Cash, a senior at Perry Central High School and the daughter of Calvin and Kelly Cash. Following graduation, she plans to attend Western Kentucky University to study Business to prepare for Law School.

The Robert Ress Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by the Optimist Club of Tell City, Indiana to benefit graduating seniors of Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary vocational education or specific career training. The recipient of this year’s $500 scholarship is Elizabeth Brinksneader. Elizabeth is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Mary Brinksneader. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in Automotive Technology at Vincennes University.

The Sam Reed Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Ralph and Rose Reed in honor of their son, Sam, and his remarkable achievements in life. This year’s scholarship recipient in the amount of $1,000 is Myla Jarboe. Myla is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Gregg and Ronica Jarboe. Following graduation, Myla will be attending University of Southern Indiana to pursue a degree in Education.

The Stacey Peak Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created to honor Stacey Peak, who was a victim of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. The recipient of this year’s $1,500 scholarship is Leivree Hagman. Leivree is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Eric and Stacy Hagman. Following graduation, Leivree plans to obtain a degree in Cinematic Arts at Indiana University.

The Wendell Werner and Loretta Werner Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Old National Trust to benefit graduating seniors of Tell City High School pursuing post-secondary education. The recipient of this year’s $1,000 scholarship is Kasey Wheatley. Kasey is a senior at Tell City High School and the daughter of Chad and Tammy Wheatley. Following graduation, she will be pursuing a degree in Biology at Ball State University.

The William J. Schergens Music Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Becky L. Schergens in memory of her father to benefit graduating seniors or graduates of any Perry County high school pursuing a college degree in music or a degree in education with some emphasis in music. This year’s recipients, each receiving $2,000 are Ace Emerson and Emma Underhill, seniors at Perry Central High School. Ace is the son of David and Frankie Emerson and plans to pursue a degree in Music Business at Indiana University Southeast. Emma is the daughter of Eric and Erica Underhill and will be attending Indiana University- Purdue University Indianapolis to pursue a degree in Music Therapy.

The Zachary Kleemann Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship created by Jim and Kathleen Kleemann in memory of their son to benefit graduating seniors of Tell City High School. The year’s $1,000 scholarship recipient is Christian Arellano.

The Perry County Community Foundation recently presented Community Good Grants totaling $61,514.96 to nine organizations serving Perry County. These grants were made possible by the following endowment funds created to support our community’s greatest needs:

The grant recipients are as follows:

Children’s Center for Dance Education was awarded $4,340 to provide ballet performances to the Perry County community and cover the cost of admission for 364 elementary students.
William Tell Elementary School was awarded $5,512 for the purchase of Gen 2 VEX IQ competition kits for the VEX Robotics Team.
Cannelton Police Department was awarded $5,000 to implement the body-worn camera program for officers to be equipped with a camera while on duty.
Buffalo Trace Council- Boy Scouts of America was awarded $1,500 to provide uniform, badge, and camp assistance for Perry County youth and to market and promote the Perry County program.
Tell City Jr/Sr High School was awarded $7,130 for exterior improvements to the grounds including tree removal, installation of new trees, and purchase of benches.
William Tell Senior Citizens was awarded $3,748.96 for the purchase of a computer, monitor, printer, projector, and phone for the William Tell Center.
Catholic Charities Tell City was awarded $15,000 to fund emergency food resources distributed through the Perry County Food Pantry Coalition pantries.
Vincennes University Jasper Center Foundation Inc. was awarded $4,284 to award Perry County students with the Scholastic Excellence Award.
Town of Troy was awarded $15,000 to cover installation costs for the new ADA-accessible playground equipment.

Perry County Community Foundation Awards Grants Totaling Over $9,000

The Perry County Community Foundation recently presented grant awards totaling over $9,000 to four organizations serving Perry County. The grant recipients are as follows: Bread of Life Ministry, Inc., Lincoln Hills Development Corporation, Isaiah 117 House Spencer/ Perry, and The Isaiah 1:17 Project.

Bread of Life Ministry, Inc. was awarded $2,100 to pay the freight for donated food and to purchase food items at discounted prices to distribute to low-income families in the Tri-State area.

Lincoln Hills Development Corporation was awarded $2,500 to provide emergency preparedness kits to low-income elderly residents, veterans, and Head Start families to help prepare them for disasters and emergencies.

Isaiah 117 House Spencer/ Perry was awarded $2,663 for the purchase of appliances to place in the home.

The Isaiah 1:17 Project was awarded $2,000 to provide support to Perry County fostering families through their programs.

Funding for the program is provided by donors and organizations establishing and donating to Community Good (Unrestricted) Funds held by the Foundation. Those funds are:

Perry County Community Foundation Community Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications

This year, donors to the Perry County Community Foundation are once again making scholarship awards available through the Foundation’s Community Scholarship Program.

“Donors have honored their loved ones, high schools, or professions by establishing scholarship funds through the Community Foundation,” says Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact. “We administer separate scholarship funds established by individuals, families, and organizations to assist local students in pursuit of advanced education. Together, these scholarships make up our Community Scholarship Program.”

The Foundation offers the following tips to help students complete their applications:

· Review the Community Scholarship Tips to Apply document.

· Print the Student Review Sheet to assist with your scholarship review process.

· Begin working on the application early.

· Follow all instructions carefully and make sure you are submitting all the required parts (including letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc.).

· Check and double-check your application before submitting.

The deadline to apply is midnight on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Perry County Community Foundation Announces the 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipient

The Perry County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Perry County – Brayden Lain of Tell City Junior-Senior High School. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership.

“Brayden’s involvement and dedication to his school and his community were apparent in his application and interview. The nominating committee was honored to have the opportunity to meet him and recommend him for this life-changing opportunity,” said Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact for the Perry County Community Foundation.

Brayden is the son of Caleb and Theresa Lain, of Tell City. Following graduation, Brayden plans to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. In addition to excelling academically, Brayden has been involved in a variety of school activities including Key Club, Student Council, Class Officer, vice president of National Honor Society, Pep Club, Spanish Club, team captain of Cross Country, co-captain of Wrestling, and Track & Field. Outside of academics, Brayden devotes numerous hours to his community including volunteering as a religion class teacher at St. Paul Church, altar server at St. Michael Church, wrestling referee, and Schweizer Fest volunteer.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years. The scholarship is for undergraduate students studying on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars may also participate in the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects both current scholars and alumni with resources and opportunities to be active leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and Indiana Humanities.

“The Community Foundation was thoroughly pleased with the quality of the applications and the involvement of the applicants. Perry County is full of talented youth,” said Alvey. Scholarship award alternates were also announced. Dylan Lynch was named first alternate and Collin Kessens was named second alternate.

Lilly Endowment created the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program for the 1998-99 school year and has supported the program every year since with grants totaling in excess of $486 million. More than 5,000 Indiana students have received the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship since the program’s inception.

Perry County Community Foundation Awards Grants to Local Organizations Over $20,000

The Perry County Community Foundation recently presented grant awards totaling $20,455 to five organizations serving Perry County. The grant recipients are as follows: Crisis Connection, Memorial Hospital Foundation, Cannelton Food Pantry, Widow’s Barrel Food Pantry, and William Tell Elementary School.

Crisis Connection was awarded $4,101.50 to supplement and sustain services in Perry County, including expenses related to maintaining a 24/7 hotline, prevention printing costs and curriculum renewal fees, transportation expenses, and emergency funds for Perry County clients in need. The Community Foundation funds used to support the grant were: TCB Bank/Fifth Third Bank Perry County Fund, Mary Jane Malone Endowment Fund, and Friends of Perry County Fund.

Memorial Hospital Foundation was awarded $3,000 to provide medical assistance to Perry County residents in need, such as medication, at-home equipment, mammograms, screenings, biopsies, transportation, etc. The Friends of Perry County Fund was used to support this grant.

Cannelton Food Pantry was awarded $5,202 to assist with driveway improvements and lighting updates. The Friends of Perry County Fund also supported this grant.

Widow’s Barrel Food Pantry was awarded $6,000 for flooring replacement. The Community Foundation fund used to support the grant was: Friends of Perry County Fund.

William Tell Elementary School was awarded $2,151.79 to enhance student learning, engagement, and comfort by providing student’s with flexible seating options, including lap desks, standing tables, colored stools, yoga ball chair, wobble stools, tractor seats on wheels, stadium chairs, and bean bag chairs. The Friends of Perry County Fund supported this grant.

Perry County Community Foundation Now Accepting Applications for The 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program

The 2023 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship application is now available in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) will provide 143 scholarships statewide, and one scholarship in Perry County. The LECSP scholarships may be used for otherwise unreimbursed full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year. The special allocation may cover the costs for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

The program, administered statewide by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) and locally in Perry County through the Perry County Community Foundation, is open to all Indiana residents who:

• graduate from an accredited Indiana high school by 2023 and receive their diploma no later than June 30, 2023;

• intend to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an eligible college or university in Indiana; and

• meet the criteria specific to their local community foundation.

Lilly Endowment created the LECSP for the 1997-1998 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling more than $424 million. Nearly 5,000 Indiana students have received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships since the program’s inception.

The Perry County Community Foundation recently presented Community Good Grant awards totaling over $24,000 to five organizations serving Perry County. These grants were made possible by the following funds: Mary Jane Malone Endowment Fund; Friends of Perry County Fund, Arnold Mulzer Fund for the Community Good, Cardinal-Smith-Etienne Fund, N & N Mulzer Unrestricted Fund, and For Good, Forever Advisory Board Fund.

The grant recipients are as follows: Cannelton Police Department, Tri-County YMCA, Paddle Perry, Junior Achievement of West Kentucky, Inc., and Southwest Indiana Workforce Board, Inc. The grants were made possible by people and organizations established and contributing to funds held by the Community Foundation.

Cannelton Police Department was awarded $2,500 for the purchase of life-saving and life preserving pieces of equipment. Tri-County YMCA was awarded $4,200 to cover rental expenses for an office space in Perry County. Paddle Perry was awarded $3,000 for the purchase of a pedal drive kayak and safety and rescue items to be used during river excursions. Junior Achievement of West Kentucky, Inc. was awarded two grants totaling $9,500. $6,000.00 was awarded for the Soft Skills and Financial Literacy programs in Perry County that will deliver soft skills programs for high school students who will then hone those new skills through service learning in elementary classrooms. $3,500.00 was awarded for all eighth grade students in Perry County to receive the Work Readiness and Financial Empowerment program that allows students to discover future careers and the correlation between educational attainment and future financial stability. Southwest Indiana Workforce Board, Inc. was awarded $5,000 to address client needs to ensure completion of training or obtaining employment

The Donna Fenn Literacy Fund Held By The Perry County Community Foundation Awards Grant

(Perry County, Indiana) The Donna Fenn Literacy Fund, held by the Perry County Community Foundation, recently awarded a $4,079 grant to the Tell City-Troy Township Schools for development of literacy skills programs for students at William Tell Elementary.

The fund was established in memory of Donna Fenn by her husband, Doug; son Christian; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Liffick; and parents, Christian and Dorothy Nix.

“The Donna Fenn Literacy Fund has brought books (and joy) to William Tell Elementary students since 2005. Annually and faithfully, the Donna Fenn Literacy Fund, through the Perry County Community Foundation, has given us the opportunity to purchase hundreds of books for the school library, devices such as Kindles for electronic reading, access to online news articles and stories, and reading intervention programs to address learning loss,” said Mrs. Laura Noble, William Tell Elementary Principal.

Since 2005, the Donna Fenn Literacy Fund has provided support to the Tell City-Troy Township Schools with over $22,000 in grants annually.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character and leadership.

The nominating committee was honored to have the opportunity to meet her and recommend her for this life-changing opportunity,” said Emily Alvey, Regional Director of Community Engagement and Impact for the Perry County Community Foundation.

Ankita Kashyab is the daughter of Balaji and Ramyaa Kashyab, of Tell City. She is a senior at Tell City Junior-Senior High School and plans to attend University of Evansville studying dentistry. In addition to exceling academically, Kashyab has been involved in a variety of school activities including Health Occupation Students of America, National Honor Society, Key Club, Spanish Club, Pep Club, Academic Bowl, golf, tennis, archery, and Varsity Swim Team Manager. Outside of school, she is actively involved in Perry County 4-H and 4-H Junior Leaders where she serves as club president for both clubs. During high school, Kashyab interned at a dentist and doctor’s office where she has gained hands-on experience in her desired field.

In nominating Perry County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar, consideration was given to academic performance, school and community activities, leadership role in activities, essays, steps applicant has taken to prepare for chosen career or educational path, special circumstances, and a finalist interview by the nominating committee. After the field of applicants was narrowed down, nominees were submitted to the statewide administrator of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, ICI, for the selection of scholarship recipients.

Scholarship award alternates were also announced. Nicolas Hilgendhold was named first alternate, and Jaxon Naviaux was named second alternate.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP) is administered locally by the Community Foundation, with the support of local high schools, and the administrative oversight by the Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI).
